Grand Junction native and former Lt. Gov. Jane Norton pulled in some big bucks in the final weeks of the third quarter, campaign finance statements showed. Norton, who is running for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate, reported her campaign amassed $380,000 during the last three weeks of September. She out raised Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet, who hauled in about $364,000 during the period, according to an analysis by The Denver Post.

The state's top Republicans could head off another GOP challenger for gubernatorial hopeful Scott McInnis if the set can agree on a conservative platform now being drafted. Former Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Littleton, who said days ago that he would certainly run for the GOP nomination, has softened his tone in light of the multi-point, fiscally focused Republican agenda that is nearly completed. He said he's waiting to see how the plan is received before making his decision.

I cannot say that I will get out and support Scott   -Tom Tancredo

If the sound of loud cackling wakes you up in the middle of the night, that's the Republicans crowing about their recent wins in the 2009 gubernatorial races while they meet this week in Austin. The GOP is downright giddy that - after three straight years of electoral losses at the federal and state level - it won the governors races in Virginia and New Jersey. The fact is, Virginia and New Jersey were about two things: Virginia and New Jersey.

Thousands across Colorado came together for 22 parties Wednesday night where the focus was on a single phone call. Families, activists and politicians gathered to show support for comprehensive immigration reform. It was part of a national effort to hear plans from congressional leaders about passing legislation affecting 12-million undocumented immigrants in the U.S., including about 265,000 in Colorado.

We've done this before. This is a replay of 1986. We had all the same promises at that time. That if we do this one amnesty, 'don't worry we'll crack down on employers. We'll strengthen our borders.' that amnesty did nothing but encourage more people to come   -Tom Tancredo

I'm not convinced Washington has awakened to the reality yet -- but the 2010 Census is going to shake things up politically in this country, and politicians would do themselves a favor to wake up and smell the coffee in advance. This is about raw political power -- something politicians of all stripes understand. Here is what a new study by my organization, America's Voice Education Fund , has to say: the 2010 Census, which will document Latino population growth, will have a profound effect on the U.S

I think it poses a real challenge for the Republican Party   -Frank Sharry

I have to admit I was disappointed with the new Westword . It was good to see Jared Jacang Maher 's "Building a Case," the followup on the One Lincoln Park story, but annoying to have your cover be Kenny Be's cartoon. A real article on the 25th anniversary of the Independence Institute would have been more interesting.
